Habit of the Heart Fund

The endowed Habit of the Heart Fund helps Hendricks County women and children in emergency need. The Fund granted over $10,000 during the 2007-2008 school year for needs which include eye glasses, hearing aids, clothing and other essential items.

When a classroom teacher, school nurse or guidance counselor identifies a child in need, they simply fax a grant application to the Community Foundation. The Community Foundation can award grants up to $250 within a week for those meeting necessary criteria. Other grants are taken under consideration by the Habit of the Heart Advisory Committee.

The Habit of the Heart Committee works year-round to raise money for the fund and holds its annual Habit of the Heart Gala Weekend each year in September.  In 2007, the Habit of the Heart Gala Weekend raised a remarkable $32,000 to benefit Hendricks County women and children in emergency need as well as the Hendricks County Community Foundation. Friday’s Gala Dinner included auctions, Tablescapes judging, dinner and dancing. Saturday’s Ladies in Red Luncheon featured a purse auction, coffee bar, lunch and keynote speaker, Dr. Suzanne Metzger.

Take advantage of Friday’s events and arrive at 6:30 pm to buy a flute of champagne for a chance at a loose diamond donated by Nelson Jewelers, judge Tablescapes provided by area businesses, and preview live auction packages that will help purchase hearing aids, prescriptions, eye glasses and exams, orthodontia, dental needs, clothing and school supplies for women and children in Hendricks County in emergency need. Some packages available are the Colts package including game tickets, the Racing package including tickets to O’Reilly Raceway Park events as well as an original racing picture by Bruce Tatman, the Golf package including a year membership to Twin Bridges Golf Club and the “All about Her” package including a knitted mink shawl from Day Furs. Dinner is served at 7:30 pm. Finally, dance the night away with the music of the Crawdaddys band.

Ladies in Red! Luncheon – Saturday, September 20 @ 10:00 am

Enjoy our gourmet coffee bar, purchase a ticket for our Habit of the Heart necklace raffle, browse and bid on unique purses including Celebrity purses and our new Purse of the Month collection, and view award winning Tablescapes. Sit down to a red-themed lunch and be entertained by our keynote speaker, Dr. Suzanne Metzger, as she helps us to understand “There’s Power in Being a Positive Woman.”

This event raises money for the Habit of the Heart Fund which benefits Hendricks County women and children in emergency need and the Hendricks County Community Foundation. Since 2005, the Habit of the Heart Fund has granted over $20,000 to women and children in Hendricks County for needs which include eye glasses, hearing aids, clothing and other essential items.

“In the spring of 2005, Johnny was fitted with neon green hearing aids that would allow him to be a more effective student. As of today, he is enrolled in the talented and gifted class, is consistently on the honor roll and is an asset to our school community.”
