Habit of the Heart Fund

The endowed Habit of the Heart Fund helps Hendricks County women and children in emergency need. The Fund granted over $10,000 during the 2007-2008 school year for needs which include eye glasses, hearing aids, clothing and other essential items.

When a classroom teacher, school nurse or guidance counselor identifies a child in need, they simply fax a grant application to the Community Foundation (found at right). The Community Foundation can award grants up to $250 within a week for those meeting necessary criteria. Other grants are taken under consideration by the Habit of the Heart Advisory Committee.

The Habit of the Heart Committee works year-round to raise money for the fund and holds its annual Habit of the Heart Gala Weekend each year in September.  In 2008, the Habit of the Heart Gala Weekend raised a remarkable $54,000 to benefit Hendricks County women and children in emergency need as well as the Hendricks County Community Foundation.

The next Habit of the Heart Gala Weekend will be September 18 & 19, 2009. For further information or to volunteer for or donate to the event, contact the Hendricks County Community Foundation at 718.1200 or info@hendrickscountycf.org.

Habit of the Heart Gala Weekend 2008

The 2008 Habit of the Heart Gala Weekend was held on September 19 and 20, 2008 at Primo Banquet and Conference Center in Plainfield. Congratulations Habit of the Heart Committee for raising $54,000 to help Hendricks County women and children in emergency need!

At Friday evening's Gala, guests purchased a flute of champagne for a chance at a loose diamond donated by Nelson Jewelers and judged Tablescapes provided by area businesses. A live auction and dinner followed. Finally, guests danced the night away with the music of the Crawdaddys band.

Saturday's luncheon included a gourmet coffee bar, the chance to purchase a ticket for the second annual Habit of the Heart necklace and the Original Purse Auction. Unique purses included Celebrity purses and the new Purse of the Month collection. The red-themed lunch was followed by keynote speaker, Dr. Suzanne Metzger, as she helped us to understand how “There’s Power in Being a Positive Woman.”

Proceeds from the event go to the Habit of the Heart Fund which benefits Hendricks County women and children in emergency need and the Hendricks County Community Foundation. Since 2005, the Habit of the Heart Fund has granted over $20,000 to women and children in Hendricks County for needs which include eye glasses, hearing aids, clothing and other essential items.

“In the spring of 2005, Johnny was fitted with neon green hearing aids that would allow him to be a more effective student. As of today, he is enrolled in the talented and gifted class, is consistently on the honor roll and is an asset to our school community.”
