What initially motivated you to work with HCCF, and why do you continue to stay involved?
I was in search of way to honor my wife’s family, who has strong roots in Hendricks County, when the concept of a legacy fund was suggested. We thought it would be a great way to connect the family and support the community that was such an integral part of our growth. We trust HCCF to understand the needs of the community and allocate the funds accordingly, and it’s been used for such projects as historical society grants and equipment for the small volunteer fire department.
How have you seen the community develop over your time involved with HCCF?
I’ve been involved with HCCF for more than 10 years, and it’s been wonderful to see projects develop or needs met that wouldn’t have been able to be completed without that initial funding from the community foundation. From student scholarships and financial aid training to the community care center and the one-room schoolhouse, there are improved opportunities for healthcare, cultural experiences and education in the community.
What would you say to others considering donating to HCCF?
It’s the best value for your charitable donation! HCCF is a great organization that supports and enables local projects that possibly wouldn’t happen otherwise. Working with HCCF provides much more of an impact and a voice than a donor might have with an organization on a regional or a national scale.
There are really good people spending a lot of time and energy to do good things for the community; the more we can do locally, the better.
